In Episode 2 of Death of a Cameraman, Aaron Cox rewinds from the collapse in Hollywood to the beginning of the dream: New Year’s Eve 2000, when he left Metro Detroit for New York City with a Telecommunications degree, no connections, and the belief that anything was possible. From chasing MTV to landing an internship, bartending, logging reality-show footage, and learning how to hustle in one of the toughest cities in the world, this episode explores the excitement and innocence of early ambition. But New York was not just a fairy tale — it also delivered Aaron’s first real lessons in instability, financial pressure, and the cost of chasing a dream without a solid foundation. This episode is about the beautiful danger of believing big before you fully understand what the dream may demand.

Additional Fun Facts:

-- I lived in NY from 2001-2005. My first place was in Brooklyn Heights. I enjoyed it, but my building was adjacent to the projects Jay-Z came from. I didn't like a lot of the activity I saw there. My next place was in Bensonhurst. And my last place was in Harlem.

-- I forgot to mention how delicious the food is in NYC! Absolutely incredible... A Philly Cheesesteak from a place in Brooklyn Heights named Johnson's was a must-have staple of my diet. The only cities that I have found that may rival New York's food overall is New Orleans, or Las Vegas.

--When I first moved there you could still go inside the Statue of Liberty. [I'm not sure if they have reopened it] But the whole time I was there I never did that, nor did I go to the very top of the Empire State Building (had lunch on the ground floor though). I wish I had done more tourist activities like that in hindsight.
